Being Busy is Better for Sleep

July 7th, 2015

Being busy isn’t always a bad thing. Having a full, well-balanced schedule can help support a healthy sleep routine, so let’s load up our planners with plenty of fun, healthy activities!

Here are a few activities to fill your schedule:

Fitness: Yoga, barre, cycling, running or anything active helps to support healthy sleep habits.

Meal prep: This takes time and careful planning, but eating the right foods more often than not will keep your body balanced and allow for a more restful sleep.

Get it done before the deadline: P to the Seventh Power (Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Production) will keep you busy, but prepared for any bumps in the road. This can lead to less stress and anxiety that can hinder a good night’s sleep.

Volunteering: Taking the time to help your community is a great way to utilize your time and keep busy with a positive spin.

Gardening: Get outside and soak in some vitamin D. Put your green thumb to work!

Making time for family and friends: Spending time with loved ones is always great way to spend your time.

Remember there is a difference between being busy and overloading your schedule. It’s always important to maintain a proper balance in your daily activities. Try following the 888 rule, 8 hours of work – 8 hours of play – 8 hours of sleep, to moderate your time!

4 Reasons to Love Black Pepper Essential Oil

September 9th, 2014

Did you know that Black Pepper is the most widely-traded spice in the world? Not only is it used in almost every culinary dish across the globe, but it has some wonderful therapeutic properties as well.

4 Reasons to Love Black Pepper

We love Black Pepper essential oil, and here’s why you should too:

1. It works wonders on aching and cramping muscles. By improving circulation, Black Pepper essential oil helps get oxygen to the muscles quickly, thus relieving aches and pains.

2. It is an excellent weapon against congestion. Ayurvedic medicine uses Black Pepper essential oil to treat nasal congestion and sinusitis.

3. It boosts energy. The motivating and stimulating properties of Black Pepper essential oil helps invigorate and awaken the brain.

4. It aids in digestion. For thousands of years, the Chinese have been using Black Pepper essential oil to treat indigestion, gas, food poisoning, diarrhea and nausea.

Black Pepper essential oil can be found in our Invigorate, Decongest and Inspire blends.

Ask Cary: Conflicting Blends + Depression

August 15th, 2014

We get all kinds of questions about essential oil therapy, and Cary makes sure to answer each and every one of them. Recently, we realized that those answers were only going to the person who asked the question. You know that at 21 Drops we believe that sharing is caring, so we decided to do a weekly roundup of some of the Q’s & A’s to help you be your best self!

This week’s topics: Conflicting Blends + Depression

Question: I love the Invigorate blend and use it every day! Can I use stimulating blends (like Invigorate) and the Sleep blend without any conflicts?

Answer: I encourage people to layer our blends! You can absolutely use conflicting blends in the same day, I just suggest waiting a few hours in between. To be safe, I would avoid using any stimulating blends at least two hours before bedtime.

Question: Lately I’ve been feeling depressed. Can essential oils help?

Answer: Essential oils can be an amazing, natural way to fight depression. I would recommend our Uplift, Carry On and Will Power blends. Uplift manages the blues, buoys your down spirit and brightens your outlook. Carry On soothes heartbreak, eases shock and grief and allows you to move on. Will Power increases your determination and drive while motivating you into action. These three blends will help get your mind to a better place.

Ask Cary: Cold Sores + Invigorate vs. Focus

August 8th, 2014

We get all kinds of questions about essential oil therapy, and Cary makes sure to answer each and every one of them. Recently, we realized that those answers were only going to the person who asked the question. You know that at 21 Drops we believe that sharing is caring, so we decided to do a weekly roundup of some of the Q’s & A’s to help you be your best self!

This week’s topics: Cold Sores + Invigorate vs. Focus

Question: Can you recommend any essential oils for getting rid of a cold sore? One of my friends suggested Melissa oil. What do you think?

Answer: You would never want to put Melissa oil directly on a cold sore. It would burn like crazy! I’ve seen a few recipes that use one drop (of Melissa oil) per teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel, but you wouldn’t want to get it on the surrounding skin– which is hard to do. Instead, I would recommend Sandalwood oil. It can be safely used by applying it directly onto a cold sore. Tea Tree oil also works, but use sparingly. And be sure to use a q-tip, as you never want to touch the cold sore to the bottle directly.

Question: What is the difference between Invigorate and Focus? They both seem like energizing blends.

Answer: Both of these blends definitely have energizing qualities. When choosing between Invigorate and Focus, I explain that Invigorate was created for the body to stimulate movement and blood flow, whereas Focus is meant more for the mind and mental focus. I would use Invigorate in the morning or before a workout and Focus while at work or before a yoga class.

Ask Cary: How Essential Oils Work + Fatigue

July 4th, 2014

We get all kinds of questions about essential oil therapy, and Cary makes sure to answer each and every one of them. Recently, we realized that those answers were only going to the person who asked the question. You know that at 21 Drops we believe that sharing is caring, so we decided to do a weekly roundup of some of the Q’s & A’s to help you be your best self!

This week: How Essential Oils Work + Fatigue

Ask Cary 7-4

Question: How do essential oils even work?

Answer: Essential oils can help alter our physical, mental and emotional well-being by triggering and strengthening our bodies’ own natural processes. They are made up of tiny molecules that can deliver healing properties to the systems that control our physiological state.

The best way for the body to absorb the therapeutic components of essential oils is a combination of inhalation through the olfactory system of the nose and absorption through the surface of the skin. When essential oils are inhaled through the nose, tiny nerves send an immediate signal to the brain and go straight to work on the systems that moderate our minds and bodies. When essential oils are applied to the skin, their healing components are absorbed into the bloodstream by the pores and hair follicles. Once inside the bloodstream, they disperse to the specific organs and systems on which they work. We suggest rolling our blends 5 times in a circular motion to the pulse points (inner wrists, temples, back of the neck) and then hold your wrists to your nose and inhale. Click here to learn more.

Question: I often find myself feeling fatigued. Can you recommend any blends to help me stay energized?

Answer: I recommend Invigorate and Focus to combat fatigue. Both of these blends contain Rosemary Oil, which is known to energize and strengthen mental activity. Invigorate is more of a body stimulant, while Focus aids in mental stimulation. The Cedarwood Oil in Invigorate increases strength and endurance, and the Peppermint Oil in Focus helps to awake and refresh.

Ask Cary: Multiple Blends + Allergies

June 20th, 2014

We get all kinds of questions about essential oil therapy, and Cary makes sure to answer each and every one of them. Recently, we realized that those answers were only going to the person who asked the question. You know that at 21 Drops we believe that sharing is caring, so we decided to do a weekly roundup of some of the Q’s & A’s to help you be your best self!

This week: Multiple blends + Allergies

Question: Can I apply more than one blend at a time?

Answer: Yes, you may layer them freely! I always use the analogy of eating fruits and vegetables: your body utilizes the phytonutrients it needs from all of the pure essential oils in the blends. They each have their characteristic functions that work synergistically together, so you’re all good to go. However, I don’t recommend using Invigorate or Focus two hours before bedtime- especially if you will be using Sleep, as these would conflict in their intended use.

Question: I need something for my sinus problems. I have a runny nose, watery eyes, etc. It is probably allergies. Do you have drops for this sort of problem?

Answer: Based on your symptoms, I recommend the Decongest blend. I created this blend with eucalyptus and black pepper oil to help clear the congestion that comes from allergies, sinus infections and colds. As far as preventing sinus problems in the future, the Immunity blend helps ward off cold and flu germs that may also be causing your symptoms!

How to Travel with 21 Drops

April 1st, 2014

They say “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”… sorry Sin City, that’s not the case today!

I recently visited Las Vegas with my husband, sister and her boyfriend to celebrate our birthdays and took my 21 Drops blends along for the ride.

Let me show you why 21 Drops are my favorite travel companion (well, besides my husband):

#10 Calm, #18 Sleep

Calm_Sleep Plane

I’m not the best when it comes to flying, so I always keep Calm in my carry on, but once I realized there was a 2-year-old behind me, my seat didn’t go back and wi-fi didn’t work on our 6-hour flight, I pulled out Sleep for a double whammy!

#19 Will Power

We landed, checked in, threw our bags down and decided it was time to hit the tables (I mean, isn’t that what Vegas is all about?), but not before rolling on some Will Power to make sure no one got too carried away – after all, it was only Day 1, Hour 1.

#20 Abstain

Abstain_smokingkillsWe sat down to play Blackjack next to this interesting dude from London puffing on his Silk Cut cigarettes (btw – check out the huge warning label on tobacco products from the UK).  None of us are smokers, so I made him a deal… if he used my Abstain blend and could refrain from smoking while we were at the table, he could keep it.  After about an hour, he won the blend, and I was up $100!

#01 Invigorate

Invigorate_VegasViewWe decided to head out for a night on the Strip, but not before a little energy boost from my good friend Invigorate!

#08 Pain Relief

Fast forward to 3am (after a full 7 hours of walking, dancing and gallivanting in these 6-inch heels), and it was time to roll some Pain Relief on my poor tootsies, go to bed, and do it all over again!

#04 Detox

21 Drops at Skin 62 21 Drops Sephora Forum Shops

Our next adventure: Shopping! While strolling through the Cosmopolitan and the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace, we spotted 21 Drops at Skins 6|2 Cosmetics and Sephora.  Talk about perfect timing – the indulgences of the previous evening were starting to catch up with us – so we “borrowed” a little Detox.

#16 Transform

Jet lag was settling in with this East Coast crew, so some Transform was in order to rid us of our sleepiness and help us restore our vitality.

#09 Focus

Time to hit the casino again, and this time, the name of the game = Poker.  We needed some Focus to make sure we stayed on point and out-smarted our competitors… $600 and a leather jacket from All Saints later… I’d say we did alright!

#06 Passion

No caption required… use your imagination people…

#20 Abstain

Abstain_feastAnd for the final indulgence of the trip… a true Vegas buffet!  I allowed myself two servings, and then put the kibosh on that with my Abstain blend (especially since I was heading straight to the airport).

All in all, it was a great trip, glad I brought my 21 Drops along for the ride!
