Are Your Essential Oils as Pure as You Think?

May 20th, 2014

There are 3 types of essential oils currently being sold on the market:

1. Food Grade: used for food flavorings (think Peppermint for toothpaste, Lemon for iced tea drinks, or Ginger for ginger ale)

2. Cosmetic Grade: used for scenting cosmetics (think Lavender soap or Rose-scented perfume)

3. Therapeutic Quality: used for treatment and wellness (think Eucalyptus for colds, Cardamom for detoxifying, or Ylang Ylang for stress relief)

Food Cosmetic Therapeutic

How are they created differently, you ask?

It’s all based on time and temperature. When large amounts of plant material are gathered to be steam distilled to extract the essential oil, the distiller for the food and cosmetic grade uses higher temperatures and a quicker turn around time. Mobdro Therefore, they are not extracting all of the precious minute components that a slower distillation at a lower temperature can produce.

What’s the best way to tell the quality of an essential oil?

GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry… so we’ll just continue to refer to it as GC/MS) testing provides a comprehensive collection of the active components in a specific oil. These reports spell out the actual chemical makeup of that particular batch as well as noting the region, harvest date, and distiller. It is possible, and more common than you may think, to “adulterate” essential oils with synthetic components to enhance their smell. This addition of unnatural chemicals would show up in a said GC/MS report, as well any pesticide chemicals used in the production of the plants used for distillation.

Why is it so important that the oils you use are therapeutic quality?

While everyone should strive for therapeutic quality for all purposes, it is of utmost importance when you are using them to make yourself feel better, Mobdro APK Download both physically and mentally. This will ensure that the oils are safe, unadulterated and effective. Fragrance oils and synthetics can cause side effects such as allergic reactions or headaches, thus strive for the highest quality available. Requiring companies to provide GC/MS reports of their essential oils will help to increase the standard on the market here in the USA.

Not everyone has to be an expert on essential oils to request high quality. Simply ask the company you’re buying your oils from if they perform GC/MS testing or checkout these third party testing results. You will find that using higher quality essential oils will bring about healthier results!

Why Children Need Nature

November 9th, 2013

Today’s families and children are fairly limited in their opportunities to spend time enjoying nature. The life of the modern family has drastically changed over the last twenty years. Kids spend more time watching TV, playing video games, and using computers and other electronic devices rather than being active or playing outside. Health problems surrounding these more sedentary activities are already apparent.

The conclusion of this collective research is that a child’s psychological, social, academic, psychological, and physical health is improved when given the opportunity to spend time in nature.

For example, kids participate in more imaginative forms of play in green areas. Nature is exceptionally significant for developing competence for creativity, intellectual development, and problem solving.

Studies have also shown that schools using outdoor classrooms or other nature-based experimental learning show noteworthy student improvements in math, science, social studies, and language arts. Students that participated in science programs outdoors were able to improve their test scores in science by 27%.

It has been shown that children who have the opportunity to grow their own
fruits and vegetables are more likely to eat the produce and have a better understanding of nutrition. It is also more likely that these children will continue to maintain good eating habits later in their lives.

Children will be happier and healthier if they are given regular opportunities for unstructured playtime outdoors. The ability to spend time in green areas or simply given a view of natural settings enhances self-control, peace and self-discipline. As parents, teachers, and influencers of these children, we need to make these opportunities to be part of nature available for the sake of their overall well being.

Next time you’re looking for a fun family activity, think about going to a pumpkin patch, picking apples, or visiting the garden store for some natural wellness. It is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon and benefit the whole family.

The Science and Benefits of Essential Oil Therapy in a Healthy Lifestyle

September 18th, 2013

998925_10151794847774241_1678692622_nHow can we live healthy, balanced lives in the midst of a toxic environment of sprayed foods, chlorinated water, polluted air and our busy modern lifestyle? Using essential oils can play an enormous role in enhancing a healthier, more balanced way of living.

When you understand that everything that happens on earth is a chemical reaction, it becomes very clear that we need to do everything we can, from having the purest food, water and air, to sustain a disease free and wholesome body.

Incorporating essential oils – the fragrant and highly concentrated molecules extracted from a plant’s leaves, fruits, woods, seeds and flowers – in our daily life can dramatically affect one’s health and wellness on a physical, emotional and mental level.

This science of understanding each unique essential oil’s specific effects on different body systems is how we begin to select which essential oils will compliment our individual needs.

Aromatherapy works most directly through the olfactory sense, but these active molecules can also be absorbed through the lung and the skin. When inhaled, the volatile aromatic compounds exert direct-to-brain actions through the limbic and autonomic nervous systems.

923434_10151574147179241_1134560570_nThis science of essential oil therapy is being validated more and more each day, with new statistical research data to validate the more holistic approach of using these plant-based remedies. It’s important to also note that more than 70% of our modern medicines come from having studied the use of plants by indigenous cultures around the globe.

Essential oils also provide the body with the necessary phytonutrients that our body utilizes through our endocrine system to monitor and regulate bodily systems. Not only do the oils help the physical ailments, but they work on our mental and emotional selves as well.

Whether one suffers from daily stress, sleepless nights, aches and pains, digestive problems, headaches or just about any ailment, there’s an essential oil or a combination of oils that can help counter and even alleviate one’s symptoms.
