Juice Buzz

Located off of Delray Beach’s historic Atlantic Avenue, Juice Buzz has been providing high-quality cold pressed juices for about a year and a half to both thirsty locals and tourists alike. We had the pleasure of touring this local favorite with Jaqueline (Jax) Sheridan, owner and founder of Juice Buzz, as she guided us through the juice making process.




Tell us a little about Jax.

I was born in Hollywood, FL and lived in Orlando, but grew up in New Jersey. I attended the University of Florida, then lived in Hawaii and California before making my way back to my home state and finding a new home in Delray Beach. I have been here now close to nine years. I love it!

I grew up in the hotel business with my father, so it was a natural choice to study Travel and Tourism. I love people and different cultures and service, therefore, I worked in several hotels and restaurants for over 12 years. Yoga had found me in between all the moves and all the jobs. I have been practicing for 15 years and guiding Vinyasa classes since 2008. My heart and soul are grateful for yoga– all aspects of it.

I will be celebrating two years married with Matthew in April and couldn’t be happier!


How did you get into juicing?

I think juicing goes hand-in-hand with eating healthy, living mindfully and, yes, practicing yoga. I think I started just a few years back. I do not cook very often, or well for that matter, so if I went food shopping it was mostly fruits and vegetables, and if I didn’t eat them whole I would just throw them in the blender or juicer at home.


How has juicing changed your lifestyle?

Although I said juicing goes hand-in-hand with eating healthy and being mindful, I did not eat a nutritious well balanced “diet” for most of my life. I have not been good at taking vitamins routinely, so I found, and still find it best and most beneficial, to juice for my vitamins and minerals and enzymes. I feel so much more alive. I feel more energized. My skin has cleared! It also saves time, since I am often on the go.


What are some ingredients people love, but wouldn’t normally put in their juice?

Asparagus, broccoli, red pepper and cauliflower are some random juicing ingredients people may not think to use, but are totally acceptable and very healing! Some may even like to add Himalayan Salt.


What separates good sustainable ingredients from lower quality ones?

Prana – life force of course! Think about it, everything is energy, so if you want good, high vibrational energy coursing through your blood and cells, then you want good quality food. Anything closest to it’s most natural state is the obvious, more positive and healthier answer.


Is there really a difference between organic and conventional? If so, are there certain fruits and veggies that MUST be organic, while others are OK to be conventional?

Here’s the most basic difference – pesticides. Pesticides are toxic and created specifically to kill living organisms – insects, plants and fungi. Many pesticides pose health dangers to people and have been linked to brain and nervous system toxicity, cancer, hormone disruption, skin, and eye and lung irritation.  So if you’re not buying organic, or even locally farmed, then you’re just poisoning yourself and your family.

There are the “Dirty Dozen,” which are produce that should be bought organic, and the “Clean 15,” which are OK not to. The Dirty Dozen includes apples, celery, grapes, nectarines, peaches, spinach, strawberries, sweet bell peppers, cucumbers, hot peppers, potatoes and cherry tomatoes.  “Clean Fifteen” list the least pesticide consist of onions, pineapples, avocados, cabbage, frozen sweet peas, sweet corn, cauliflower, papayas, mangoes, asparagus, eggplant, kiwi, grapefruit, cantaloupe and sweet potatoes.


How can you make juicing more affordable?

Well, now that depends on how much value and worth one puts on their health, as to what is considered affordable. I have done the cost comparison and have had several people tell me they know that they can spend the same amount by juicing at home as they can by coming to JuiceBuzz. If you want to do it at home, then I suggest finding a local farmer’s market you can go to twice a week and buy organic, which means they need to be juiced asap. If you’re using a masticating or centrifugal juicer, then you really should drink the juice right away. A centrifugal juicer will be most cost effective. Also, you can create a budget on what you can spend and think is worthy and support your favorite local cold press juice bar as often as you like. And know that it’s worth it. They’ll do the shopping and make a mess and clean up for you!


Explain the process of cold pressing, how is it different from other juicing methods?

There are three ways to juice – Centrifugal, Masticating and Cold Press.

Centrifugal is the most common type of juicer. These typically utilize a fast-spinning metal blade that spins against a mesh filter, separating juice from flesh via centrifugal force. The fast-spinning metal blade generates heat, which destroys some of the enzymes in the fruits and vegetables you’re juicing. The heat also oxidizes those nutrients, rendering less nutritious juice than a cold-press juicer.

Masticating (Omegas) work at a slower speed, offering less heat and mimics how we chew our food.

Cold Press, specifically on a Norwalk Juicer, is a slow and careful process extracting fruit and vegetable juice through a hydraulic press. You get the highest quality plant-based nutrition available and the freshest-tasting juice possible. Cold press juicers use just enough pressure to extract the juice, while preserving its vitamins, enzymes, trace minerals and phytonutrients up to five times more than any other juicer. Because cold press juicing is so precise with its process of extraction, there is minimal air and heat, so very little oxidation occurs. This means you can enjoy our cold pressed juice up to 3 days after extraction!

Most ‘healthy’ juices on the market are pasteurized to destroy potentially harmful bacteria. However, the process of pasteurization significantly depletes beneficial nutrients. Be mindful of those bottles at the markets that say cold press and are not. Think about it – do you know the source of their produce, do you know how long the bottles sat in a truck or how long they’ve been in plastic in the heat or even on the shelves in the store?


Juice Buzz’s Detox Rox: 


A juice for detoxifying the body. Ingredients include cucumber, celery, coconut water, cilantro, parsley, lemon and ginger.

Celery, is loaded with potassium, folic acid, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and essential amino acids. Not to mention it’s one of the most alkalinizing things you can put in your body.

Parsley and cilantro are great for detoxing heavy metals from the body that we accumulate from environmental pollution.
