While partaking in any type of exercise, it’s important to fuel and refuel your body in order to maximize your performance. Yoga is no exception to this concept. Here are some great suggestions on what to eat before and after your yoga class to feel your best.

Before:

A small meal with veggies, fruits, whole grains and nuts about 2-4 hours before your yoga practice. For example, have a slice of Ezekiel toast with almond butter and sliced carrots and celery (dip in almond butter). About 30 minutes before your workout have and a glass of water. It’s so important to remember to hydrate properly, so always drink water throughout the day and with every meal.

During:

WATER, WATER, WATER! Staying hydrated throughout your practice will prevent cramping, nausea and fatigue caused by dehydration.

After:

About 15-60 minutes after your yoga practice, it’s recommended to eat a meal or snack incorporating carbohydrates and protein to refuel while rebuilding damaged muscle tissue to aid in the formation of new muscle tissue.  Some great examples of what to eat— Hummus and veggies, grilled fish or chicken with whole grain rice and steamed seasonal veggies or with a kale/spinach salad.

Ingredients:

10 drops of Cedarwood- helps increase strength, endurance

10 drops of Ginger- lights the fire, encourages resolve

10 drops of Geranium- fosters a sense of stability

1 oz of Aloe Vera Gel

2 oz of Distilled Water

 

Directions:

In a 3-ounce spray bottle, mix together distilled water and aloe vera gel, then add 10 drops of each essential oil and shake well.
